JOHN PERKINTON OF DUNDEE SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR SERIAL SEX OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGERS
In June 2019, a disturbing case involving a resident of Dundee, John Alfred Perkinton, 48, culminated in his being sentenced to a lengthy prison term after a series of heinous sexual offenses.The court heard that Perkinton had committed multiple acts of sexual violence and misconduct over several years, targeting vulnerable teenagers within the city.
Perkinton was convicted on multiple charges, including one count of rape and three counts of lewd and libidinous practices and behavior.
The jury found him guilty of engaging in sexual acts with an 11-year-old boy on two separate occasions, spanning from May 1996 to May 1997.
These acts took place at an address in Dundee’s West End and in an unidentified wooded area within the city, highlighting the disturbing nature of his predatory behavior.
Further, Perkinton was convicted of touching a 13-year-old schoolgirl on her body and attempting to kiss her between January 1998 and January 1999.
These incidents also occurred at an address in Dundee’s West End, indicating a pattern of abuse involving minors in familiar settings.
The court also found him guilty of assaulting and raping a 16-year-old girl after intoxicating her with alcohol and drugs.
This assault took place at an address in Dundee between July 1999 and July 2000, adding to the gravity of his offenses and the danger he posed to young victims.
During the sentencing, Judge Lord Beckett emphasized the severity of Perkinton’s crimes.
He stated, “Taking all these matters together, in such serious sexual offending there is no suitable alternative to a prison sentence to punish you and seek to deter others from behaving in this way.” Perkinton was sentenced to a total of eight years in prison, a sentence that was backdated to May 3, the date he was remanded in custody.
Additionally, the judge ordered that his name would remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely, reflecting the serious concern for public safety and the need for ongoing monitoring of his conduct post-release.
