JOHN NARDI OF ROCHDALE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN ROCHDALE AND BEYOND
In a disturbing case that spanned decades, John Nardai, a man from Rochdale, has been convicted and sentenced for the sexual abuse of multiple children. The crimes, which took place primarily during the 1990s, involved manipulative tactics and exploitation of vulnerable young victims.
One of the victims, a boy under the age of 13 at the time, was lured into Nardai’s trap with promises of a dart board and a games console.
The offender used these incentives to coerce the boy into performing sexual acts, specifically instructing him to pull down his trousers and underwear.
Following this, Nardai would physically assault the boy by smacking him on the bottom.
The victim later reported that these abusive incidents occurred on more than 30 separate occasions, a revelation he made when he came forward as an adult.
During a court statement read by prosecutor David Bentley, the man expressed how the trauma had severely impacted his confidence and sense of self-worth.
In addition to the abuse of the young boy, Nardai was also convicted of assaulting a girl under the age of seven.
The court heard that Nardai deceived her by claiming they were going to play a game before subjecting her to abuse.
To distract her during the assault, he would play children’s TV shows, including popular programs like Sooty and Sweep.
The girl confided in a teacher about the abuse, but she felt unable to speak out earlier, fearing she would not be believed.
It was only after she grew older that charges were brought against Nardai.
In her victim impact statement, she expressed her feelings of normalcy during the abuse, stating, “I just thought it was normal by that point.
As a child I just thought it was normal.” Addressing Nardai directly through a statement read in court, she added, “You haven’t beaten us – and you never will.
I hope one day you feel remorse for your actions.” Despite her courage in speaking out, Nardai claimed during police interviews that he could not remember the details of his crimes, a common defense among offenders of this nature.
It was revealed that Nardai had previously received a nine-year sentence for abusing a girl, which was separate from the recent convictions.
His criminal record includes ten counts of indecent assault, and he was ultimately sentenced to an additional nine years in prison.
The court emphasized that Nardai will only be released when the Parole Board determines it is safe to do so, and he will be subject to an extra year of license conditions to monitor his behavior post-release.
