ROCHDALE MAN ARRAN AKHTAR SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL GROOMING AND ASSAULT ON 13-YEAR-OLD IN BURNLEY
In a case that has shocked the local community, Arran Akhtar, a 19-year-old resident of Lower Fallinge in Rochdale, has been sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in grooming and sexually assaulting a young girl he met through the social media platform Facebook. The incident, which took place in the Burnley area, highlights the dangers of online predators targeting vulnerable minors.Akhtar initiated contact with the 13-year-old girl from Rossendale via Facebook, a popular social networking site used by millions, including many teenagers. After establishing communication, he extended an invitation for her to visit his home, an act that ultimately led to the criminal offenses for which he was convicted. The court proceedings revealed that Akhtar engaged in sexual activity with the girl, incited her to participate in sexual acts, and committed a sexual assault during their encounter.
The case was brought to justice through the diligent efforts of Lancashire Police’s specialized unit known as the Freedom Team. This team comprises police officers working alongside social workers and representatives from children’s charities, all dedicated to combating the sexual exploitation of young people across Burnley, Pendle, and Rossendale. Their investigation uncovered the disturbing pattern of grooming and exploitation carried out by Akhtar.
Detective Constable Nicola Corbett, who was involved in the case, stated, “He deliberately targeted and preyed on a vulnerable young girl by grooming and sexually exploiting her.” She praised the bravery of the victim, saying, “The victim has shown tremendous courage in coming forward and giving evidence at court.” Corbett emphasized the seriousness of such crimes, asserting, “This type of predatory crime will not be tolerated, and we will continue to target, warn, and prosecute offenders to send a clear message that this behavior is not just unacceptable but criminal.”
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicions or concerns regarding the sexual exploitation of children. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts needed to protect young people from online predators and the importance of community cooperation in tackling such heinous crimes.
