JOHN MULHOLLAND'S HORRIFIC SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN DUNDEE LEAD TO JAIL SENTENCE
A man from Dundee who carried out a series of heinous sexual assaults on four women while they were sleeping has been sentenced to prison.John Mulholland, whose actions spanned over nearly a decade, was found guilty of multiple charges after a detailed and traumatic court process.
The incidents, which all occurred in different locations within Dundee, involved the offender taking advantage of women during moments of social gatherings or parties, where alcohol was consumed, rendering the victims unable to give consent.
The first assault took place on October 22, 2011, when Mulholland forcibly indecently touched his first victim.
This disturbing pattern continued with a similar attack in March 2019 at another residence in Dundee.
Despite being told to stop, he persisted in forcing himself upon the woman.
The pattern of predatory behavior persisted with two more women on January 1, 2020, and February 2, 2021, respectively.
Each of these incidents was characterized by the same disturbing circumstances: the women were asleep, under the influence of alcohol, and unable to consent.
The jury, after hearing days of harrowing evidence, found Mulholland guilty of all four charges.
Throughout the trial, the victims provided detailed accounts of their experiences, which revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior.
The court heard that Mulholland’s actions were part of a course of conduct, with similarities across each incident, indicating a deliberate and predatory approach.
John Mulholland, aged 32 and residing on Dunmore Street, appeared in Perth Sheriff Court via video link from prison for sentencing.
Sheriff William Wood addressed him directly, emphasizing the gravity of his actions.
The sheriff stated, “During the course of this trial, four separate and individual young women gave evidence about four distinct and separate occasions.
You sexually assaulted them at a time when there had been something of a social gathering before, when a considerable amount of alcohol had been taken and when they were asleep.
They were unable to provide any consent.” He further explained that the incidents spanned nearly nine years, and the jury believed they were part of a pattern of conduct.
Sheriff Wood also acknowledged the emotional toll on the victims, noting the distress they experienced reliving their ordeals during the trial.
He highlighted that some victims had trusted Mulholland as an acquaintance or even a friend, which made his predatory behavior even more reprehensible.
Despite the gravity of his crimes, Mulholland showed no remorse, according to the sheriff.
In light of these factors, Sheriff William Wood sentenced Mulholland to 32 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
