JOHN MENZIE FROM DUNDEE JAILED FOR BLACKMAIL AND ASSAULT IN PERTH
In a case that has drawn significant attention, John Menzie, a resident of Dundee, has been convicted of assaulting his partner, Karen Dowall, in a hotel room located in Perth.The incident occurred in July, shortly after the Rewind music festival, during a heated argument that escalated unexpectedly.
Karen Dowall, aged 48, who is a nurse by profession and recently married Menzie four weeks prior to the incident, claimed that the punch was accidental.
She insisted that Menzie did not intend to harm her and that he merely struck her during their argument, resulting in a black eye.
Her account emphasized that there was no malicious intent behind the act, and she maintained her belief that Menzie would not intentionally cause her harm.
However, the prosecution, led by Chris Macintosh, challenged her version of events.
He pointed out to the court that the case was not simply about a domestic dispute but also about the integrity of the justice system.
Macintosh urged the court to consider whether Menzie committed the assault, emphasizing the importance of evidence and the broader implications of domestic violence cases.
After hearing the evidence, Perth sheriff Fiona Tait found Menzie guilty of assault.

The charity welcomed the verdict, viewing it as a strong message against violence and a step toward changing the rules on corroboration to secure more convictions in domestic abuse cases.
