JOHN MCLAREN THREATENS TO KILL EX-GIRLFRIEND IN DUNDEE AFTER ACCUSATION OF CHEATING
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Dundee, John McLaren, a 32-year-old man, was involved in a confrontation with his former partner that escalated into threats of violence and intimidation. The incident took place at the woman’s residence on Helmsdale Avenue early in the morning, around 8:30 am on April 12.
According to court proceedings at Dundee Sheriff Court, McLaren gained access to the woman’s home after being let in by a child.
Once inside, he proceeded upstairs to confront his ex-partner, with the underlying cause being an accusation of infidelity.
The court heard that McLaren was upset and confrontational, attempting to show the woman a video on his phone.
The woman, seeking to distance herself from the confrontation, asked him to leave.
However, McLaren’s behavior quickly turned aggressive.
Fiscal depute Lynne Mannion described the scene: “He confronted her about an allegation of her sleeping around.
She told him to get out.
He was trying to show the complainer a video from his phone.
The complainer tried to get away from the accused who then became aggressive towards her, saying: ‘I’m going to ******* kill you.
I’m going to ******* murder you.’” McLaren’s anger appeared to intensify when he expressed disbelief that his ex-partner had been unfaithful.
In a fit of rage, he grabbed her mobile phone and forcefully threw it against a wall, causing damage.
The court was also told that McLaren’s threats and aggressive behavior included shouting, swearing, and making violent threats towards the woman, effectively preventing her from leaving the bedroom during the incident.
Following the escalation, police were contacted by the distressed woman.
McLaren subsequently turned himself in to the authorities after receiving a call from officers.
During police interviews, he admitted to the behavior, pleading guilty to charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, which included shouting, swearing, making violent threats, preventing the woman from leaving the room, and damaging her phone.
Legal representatives for McLaren, including solicitor Richard Gray, explained that the defendant, who is a father of three, was still struggling to come to terms with the end of his relationship.
The court heard that there might be additional information that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Judge Pino di Emidio decided to defer sentencing until next month to allow for social work reports to be prepared.
The judge acknowledged the distress caused by the incident, stating, “There may be some information that can cast some light on the situation.
This sounds like an incident that would have been frightening and distressing.” McLaren was granted bail pending the next hearing, but the case highlights the serious nature of domestic disputes and the potential for violence when relationships break down in Dundee.
