JOEY STEPHEN SHOCKS DUNDEE WITH EXPOSE AND ATTACKS AT POWRIE PARK
In November 2019, a disturbing incident at Powrie Park in Dundee has left local parents outraged and deeply concerned about public safety.Joey Stephen, a 20-year-old resident of Mull Terrace, was involved in a series of alarming acts that targeted children in the playpark, prompting a strong reaction from the community and legal authorities alike.
According to court records and eyewitness accounts, Stephen was responsible for assaulting multiple children during an incident that took place on June 1 of the previous year.
The court heard that he had physically seized two children, grabbing them by the body and punching them in the head, which caused the young victims to fall to the ground.
The aggression did not stop there; Stephen also directed threats of violence towards two other children, including warnings of stabbing them with a knife.
These actions have caused significant distress among the families involved and have raised serious concerns about the safety of children in the area.
Further compounding the severity of his conduct, Stephen was found later that day hiding in a bush with his trousers around his ankles.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that he had also exposed himself to two children, acts that have horrified the local community.
Witnesses and parents expressed their outrage, emphasizing that Stephen’s behavior was not only criminal but also deeply disturbing.
One parent stated, “My child and their mum had to move house because he is still free to walk around.
This guy is a filthy pervert who hit my kid and exposed himself to a teenager.
I don’t understand why he walked free from court with only a tag.
My child still has nightmares about what happened.” Another parent added, “He was put on a tag but that’s not nearly enough for what he did to our kids.
Parents can get into trouble for smacking their children, so I don’t understand why this disgusting paedophile was able to get away without being locked up for what he did to them.” The community’s frustration is compounded by the fact that Stephen had also asked one of the children to perform a sex act on him, further illustrating the dangerous nature of his actions.
Legal proceedings resulted in Stephen admitting to multiple charges, including seizing two children and punching them, acting aggressively towards others, and threatening violence.
He also pleaded guilty to exposing himself to the same children.
The court, presided over by Sheriff Alastair Carmichael, responded by placing Stephen on the sex offenders register for five years and imposing a six-month tagging order that restricts his movement to indoors between 7pm and 7am.
Despite these measures, community members remain deeply concerned about the potential for Stephen to reoffend, with many believing that such restrictions are insufficient given the gravity of his actions.
Local residents and parents continue to express their outrage and fear, emphasizing that Stephen’s behavior at Powrie Park has left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.
The incident has sparked a broader debate about the adequacy of legal penalties for offenders who pose a danger to children, and the community remains vigilant, hoping that justice will be fully served and that measures will be strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
