JASON OOSTHUISEN'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN DUNDEE: STRANGULATION AND DOMESTIC ABUSE LEAVE VICTIM PREGNANT WOMAN INJURED.
Jason Oosthuizen, aged 38, of City Road in Dundee, has been found guilty of a series of brutal and violent crimes against a vulnerable woman, including assault of a protected person and causing the death of an unborn child through severe physical abuse.The court heard that Oosthuizen engaged in a manipulative and coercive relationship with the woman, which lasted over two years, during which he exploited her trust and kindness to extract a substantial sum of money.
Initially residing in South Africa, Oosthuizen claimed to have a reputable business background and a history of ethical work.
He told his victim that he was facing hard times and that he had family in the United Kingdom with whom he would stay.
He also promised employment opportunities, which convinced her to purchase a one-way ticket for him to travel to the UK.
The victim believed that Oosthuizen would visit her briefly before heading to his supposed work and family commitments, but upon arrival in Dundee, he refused to leave her home.
Over the course of ten weeks, Oosthuizen took control of her residence, gradually isolating her from her friends and family.
His behavior became increasingly hostile, especially towards her children, creating a tense and threatening environment.
During this period, the woman became pregnant, adding to the emotional and physical toll she was enduring.
On January 10, 2024, concerns about Oosthuizen’s aggressive behavior were raised by one of the children in the household.
When the victim confronted him about the child's worries, Oosthuizen’s anger erupted into violence.
He physically assaulted her in front of her children, an attack that was both brutal and terrifying.
Witnesses described how he strangled her twice to the point of unconsciousness, pulled hair from her scalp, punched and slapped her, and dragged her across the floor whenever she lost consciousness.
The assault was marked by extreme violence, with Oosthuizen dragging her through the house, locking her in a bedroom, and continuing his attack inside.
Inside the room, Oosthuizen repeatedly kicked, stomped, spat on, and screamed at the victim for over thirty minutes.
The children - witnessing the horrifying scene, managed to escape from the house when Oosthuizen dragged their mother upstairs.
They sought safety with a neighbor, alerting authorities to the incident.
The victim sustained serious injuries, including a miscarriage, secondary oedema caused by strangulation, bruising, cuts, and partial detachment of her earlobe.
Her injuries underscored the severity of the assault and the danger she faced from Oosthuizen’s violent outburst.
