JASON OKWARA SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR RAPE IN DUNDEE: OFFENDER'S SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT SHOCKS COURT
A high court judge delivered a stern rebuke to Jason Okwara, a man convicted of multiple sexual offenses, condemning his blatant sense of entitlement to women and sex as she sentenced him to a prison term of nine years. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior spanning several years, with Okwara, 45, found guilty of raping two women and sexually assaulting a third at different locations within Dundee between 2004 and 2012.
One of Okwara’s victims, who previously spoke to the Record, recounted her feelings of humiliation and frustration with the justice process.
She described how she was made to endure the ordeal of watching her attacker walk freely around the court before she was called to give her testimony, which ultimately led to his conviction.
Her account highlighted the emotional toll and sense of injustice she experienced during the trial.
During the sentencing hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, Lady Rae expressed her disapproval of Okwara’s attitude and the disturbing reports presented.
She criticized his apparent lack of remorse and his continued insistence on maintaining innocence, despite overwhelming evidence.
Lady Rae remarked that the pre-sentencing reports “did not make good reading” and condemned Okwara’s attitude, stating, “You have shown no remorse and you still maintain your innocence.
These three women were unknown to each other, but, according to you, have lied.” The court heard that Okwara’s first assault took place in 2004 at a property in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, targeting a woman who was described as “particularly vulnerable” at the time.
It was established that she was “incapable of giving or withholding consent” during the attack.
The defendant’s pattern of predatory behavior continued five years later when he assaulted another woman at a different address within Dundee.
Jurors heard that this victim “simply froze” as Okwara told her “your body says yes” while raping her, a statement that underscored the coercive nature of the assault.
In August 2012, Okwara’s misconduct extended further when he sexually assaulted a third woman.
She recounted that he only ceased his attack when she shouted at him, indicating her desperation and fear during the ordeal.
The court’s findings paint a picture of a man who repeatedly exploited vulnerable women over an extended period, with his actions culminating in the recent conviction and sentencing.
The judge’s comments and the length of the sentence reflect the seriousness with which the court views these heinous crimes committed within the city of Dundee.
