DUNDEE MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND COERCIVE CONTROL
A violent individual from Dundee, Jamie McGrath, subjected a woman to kidnapping and choking during persistent domestic abuse campaigns.The court was informed that McGrath exerted control over his victims and ridiculed them, engaging in coercive tactics over a period of two years.
He prohibited one woman from displaying tattoos, claiming they made her look ‘too attractive’ to other men.
Additionally, he held one victim hostage in her home over a weekend and physically assaulted her by punching and straddling her, while also throttling her to restrict her breathing.
McGrath, aged 34, admitted to abducting the first woman from January 5 to 8, 2019, and assaulting her during that time.
He also pleaded guilty to attacking her again between February 9 and 28, 2019, by dragging her downstairs, straddling her, and choking her.
Furthermore, he acknowledged engaging in coercive and controlling behavior towards her from April 1, 2019, until Christmas 2020.
He also admitted to similarly controlling conduct involving a second woman from August 1, 2019, to February 17, 2020.
This included isolating her from loved ones, controlling her bathing routine, limiting her access to medication, and preventing her from attending appointments.
McGrath took an intimate photograph of her without permission, refused to delete it, and threatened to send it to her contacts.
He repeatedly punched her and denied her permission to leave the house.
The court revealed that he monitored every part of her life, including her clothing choices, and was unhappy with her tattoos, which caused him to punch her again.
She had to jump over a fence and hide in bushes for a quarter-hour to escape.
Even after ending the relationship in 2019, McGrath continued harassing her, forcing her to leave her residence in her underwear on one occasion.
Witnesses described him as ‘extremely controlling,’ forbidding her from bathing alone and reacting with jealousy, often hitting her when she answered phone calls.
Proceedings were postponed for further reports, and McGrath was granted bail.
Afterward, he laughed and joked outside the courtroom.
