JAMES OWENS FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IN SHERIFF COURT
James Owens, also known by the nickname Smilie, faced justice at Dundee Sheriff Court on the 6th of March, 2025.The court, presided over by Sheriff Way, heard details of Owens' involvement in domestic abuse incidents targeting two women.
The case highlighted the ongoing issue of domestic violence and the importance of holding offenders accountable.
Following a thorough hearing, Sheriff Way sentenced Owens to a three-year supervision order, which requires him to adhere to specific conditions aimed at preventing further abuse and promoting rehabilitation.
In addition to the supervision order, Owens was mandated to participate in the Caledonian programme for two years.
This programme is specifically designed to address and challenge the behaviours associated with domestic abuse, with the goal of reducing the likelihood of reoffending.
Furthermore, Owens was issued a 24-month non-harassment order, which serves to protect both victims from any form of contact or intimidation.
This legal measure is intended to ensure the safety and well-being of the women involved, preventing Owens from approaching or communicating with them during the period of the order.
However, the proceedings took a sudden turn immediately after the sentencing when Owens was taken into custody again.
This was due to an outstanding warrant for his arrest, which was issued because he had breached bail conditions previously set by the court.
The breach of bail conditions led to his immediate arrest, underscoring the seriousness with which the legal system treats violations of court orders and the importance of compliance in such cases.
Domestic abuse remains a critical issue that society must confront.
Authorities emphasize that such behaviour should never be tolerated, and raising awareness is vital in protecting victims and preventing future incidents.
The case of James Owens serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and enforcement in cases of domestic violence.
