DUNDEE MAN FINED FOR THREATENING AND ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR AFTER RE-ARREST
A Dundonian man named James Dougan, aged 35, was involved in a threatening and abusive incident in February. He was initially taken into police custody the night before for a separate matter and released on an undertaking to appear in court, which prohibited him from contacting his partner.
Despite this, shortly after his release at around 3.30pm, Dougan was at a bus shelter behind the Wellgate Centre where his partner, carrying 'the dove of peace' to make amends, approached him.
Dougan, anxious about the strict conditions, attempted to distance himself and moved to a nearby bus stop, but his partner and her friend followed.
During the confrontation, Dougan raised his crutch in a threatening manner and became involved in a physical altercation, restraining his partner with the crutch and preventing her from entering a taxi.
Police arrived and arrested him at 3.50pm—just 20 minutes after his earlier release.
While in custody, he launched into a barrage of offensive abuse, calling police officers ‘f***ing mongols and retards’.
His defense argued the incident stemmed from a fall-out and mobility issues due to previous operations.
Sheriff Rafferty criticized Dougan’s derogatory language, emphasizing its disgraceful nature and its impact on disabled persons.
Dougan pled guilty to behaving threateningly and abusively on February 18, 2022, and was fined £215.
The original charge for which he was detained is no longer before the courts.
