A nurse from Scotland has been struck off the register after authorities discovered he possessed over 1,300 images of child abuse, which he also shared online with others engaging in similar activities.
Ian Macphail, aged 36 and from Fife, confessed to having a collection of disturbing images, including videos and photos depicting young children being sexually assaulted by adults, over a decade at his residence in Newport-on-Tay.
The police investigation was initiated in October 2017 after reports suggested his internet connection was accessing illegal images.
Upon executing a search warrant, officers confiscated a laptop containing a total of 1,374 indecent images, 454 of which were classified as the most severe.
Further inquiry revealed Macphail had distributed some of these images to 11 individuals through a Yahoo chat group from 2007 to 2012.
At the time of his arrest, Macphail was employed with NHS Tayside Renal Service as a nurse.
He appeared in Dundee Sheriff Court in June of the previous year, where he pleaded guilty to three charges related to possession and distribution of the illicit material.
