IAN LOWE DODGES JAIL IN DUNDEE DESPITE ABUSING CHILDREN FOR DECADES
In a recent court ruling in Dundee, Ian Lowe, a 67-year-old man with a disturbing history of sexual offenses against children, has avoided a prison sentence despite the severity of his crimes.Lowe, a former bakery worker residing on Langshaw Road, was convicted of multiple sexual offenses committed over a span of several years, yet the court opted for a punishment that many victims and advocates believe falls short of justice.
During the proceedings, Lowe was found guilty of abusing two children between the years 1983 and 1991.
The court heard that his misconduct included pulling a young girl’s arm into a bedroom, stripping her, and subjecting her to repeated inappropriate touching and physical strikes.
One of his victims, Pamela Devlin, now 48, recounted her traumatic experience, stating that Lowe molested her when she was just 12 years old.
Pamela expressed her disappointment with the court’s decision, asserting that she believed Lowe deserved a prison sentence for his actions.
Despite the gravity of his offenses, the sheriff presiding over the case decided that Lowe should perform unpaid community work, a sentence the court deemed more fitting than the maximum three-month jail term available under the circumstances.
The sheriff described Lowe’s conduct as “reprehensible,” but ultimately believed that the unpaid work order would serve as an adequate punishment.
Pamela, who chose to waive her right to anonymity, voiced her frustration, saying, “It’s just not fair on the victims.
The judge sat there and listened to us, he knows what we were put through.
He (Lowe) has already been jailed before.
He’s a horrific sex offender.” Another victim, who preferred to remain unnamed, shared her feelings of injustice, stating, “We just don’t feel we have had any kind of justice here.
We have suffered coming to court far worse than him.
We were the ones who had the courage to come forward, but it feels like it’s not been worth it at all.” Lowe’s criminal history extends beyond this case.
In April 2017, he was convicted of similar offenses involving three children, leading to a 12-month jail sentence and a decade-long registration on the sex offenders register.
The 2017 case involved allegations of lewd, indecent, and libidinous acts committed at various locations in Dundee between 1977 and 1980, as well as between 1993 and 1994.
Although he faced additional charges related to other victims, the jury returned a verdict of not proven on those counts.
Throughout his criminal career, Lowe’s offenses have spanned over multiple decades, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior.
Despite his previous jail time and convictions, the recent court decision has reignited concerns among victims and advocacy groups about the adequacy of the justice served in cases involving child sexual abuse in Dundee.
