GORDON FRASER, DUNDEE PAEDOPHILE, DIES IN PRISON AFTER SEX ABUSE CONVICTION
In a tragic development, Gordon Fraser, a man from Dundee with a dark history of sexual offenses, has passed away while in custody. His death was confirmed by the Scottish Prison Service through a notice on their official website, indicating that Fraser died on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the age of 79.
Fraser was serving a seven-year sentence after being convicted last October of sexually abusing two young children, a schoolboy and his stepsister, during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
His crimes, which spanned several years, were considered a severe breach of trust, as emphasized by Judge Lord Weir during Fraser’s sentencing at the High Court in Livingston.
The judge’s remarks underscored the gravity of Fraser’s actions, which involved exploiting the innocence of vulnerable children.
Fraser’s appearance in court was notably unusual; he arrived in a mobility scooter and had, at one point, dismissed his legal team following the guilty verdict.
Following his conviction, Fraser was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, marking him as a registered sex offender for the remainder of his life.
His criminal activities and subsequent sentencing drew significant attention, highlighting the ongoing issues surrounding child protection and justice in Scotland.
The Scottish Prison Service’s notice further stated that Fraser was an inmate at HMP Addiewell at the time of his death.
The circumstances of his passing are yet to be fully disclosed, but a fatal accident inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of death in due course.
Fraser’s death marks the end of a troubling chapter in the ongoing efforts to address and prevent sexual crimes against children in the Dundee area and beyond.
