GEORGE REID'S VIOLENT ATTACK IN DUNDEE LEAVES MAN BLOODIED AND FACING JAIL
A violent assault carried out by George Reid in Dundee has resulted in a man being left severely injured and bloodied, with the offender now facing the possibility of a prison sentence. The incident occurred in the early hours of December 6, 2020, when the victim, who was attempting to make his way home from the Douglas area, was unexpectedly attacked by Reid.
According to court reports, the victim was walking along Ballindean Road after leaving a gathering with another individual.
Both men had been drinking and had called a taxi, but they were unsure of their exact location at the time.
As the victim continued his journey, he encountered Reid, who was standing beside a dark-colored car with a group of people nearby.
The confrontation quickly turned violent.
Prosecutor Andrew Harding explained that after passing through the area, the victim was suddenly struck from behind, receiving a blow to the back of his head.
Reid then proceeded to assault him by repeatedly punching and kicking him in the head and body.
Despite the brutal attack, the victim managed to get to his feet and began walking away while calling for help.
During the call, he was assaulted again, forcing him to seek refuge behind a parked car on Balunie Avenue.
Witnesses outside heard the commotion and saw the injured man staggering past their homes, entering a garden for safety.
Emergency services were called, and paramedics arrived to treat the victim, who was found to be covered in blood, with a swollen face.
The injuries sustained included bruising and swelling behind his left ear, a swollen right cheek, blood clotting in his nostrils, a fractured nose, and a fractured finger.
Reid, who resides on Thurso Crescent, admitted to participating in the assault alongside another individual, which resulted in the victim suffering severe injuries.
During the court hearing, Reid’s defense solicitor, Mike Short, acknowledged his client's history of violent convictions and warned that a custodial sentence was likely.
However, he suggested that alternative measures such as compensation, unpaid work, and a restriction of liberty order might be more appropriate, especially considering Reid’s stability and efforts to stay out of trouble.
Judge Paul Brown decided to defer sentencing until next month to allow for further reports.
He warned Reid that, given the case’s history, he was likely to face a custodial sentence and advised him to prepare for the possibility of imprisonment, emphasizing the seriousness of the assault and its impact on the victim.
