DUNDEE MAN GAVIN SKELLY JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND POLICE VIOLENCE
A violent incident occurred involving Gavin Skelly, a 37-year-old man, who during a cocaine- and alcohol-fueled outburst, assaulted his partner by repeatedly striking her with an unknown object and attacking her as she lay on the ground. The victim feared for her life as Skelly became increasingly aggressive, kicking and punching her near the tailbone area and causing her to suffer cuts and swelling.
Police were called to the scene at Skelly's residence on Sandeman Place, where officers found the distressed woman crying with facial injuries.
Skelly then ran towards the kitchen upon police entry, challenging officers to fight.
During the arrest, PC Sarfaraaz Ali sustained a dislocated thumb, and Skelly kicked PC Gareth Jennings in the chest, causing him to fall backwards.
Throughout the arrest, Skelly was verbally abusive, calling PC Shogun Hangetsu a “f****** monkey.” He was physically restrained and took to Dundee Sheriff Court, where he admitted the charges.
The court was informed that Skelly had been under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, and was upset over accusations that his partner had been unfaithful during his recent imprisonment.
The judge, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael, sentenced Skelly to 32 months in prison for his offences, which included domestic assault and assaulting police officers.
