GARY WATT FROM FIFE SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR REPEATED SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST TEEN AND WOMAN
In a case that has shocked the community of Fife, 29-year-old Gary Watt from Markinch has been handed down a substantial prison sentence of eight years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses committed over a span of more than a decade. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse involving a 13-year-old girl and an adult woman, both of whom fell victim to Watt’s predatory behavior during different periods.
Watt had initially denied allegations that he assaulted the young girl, claiming that the incidents, which took place at an address in Fife between December 1, 2006, and August 31, 2007, never occurred.
He also maintained his innocence regarding the sexual assaults on the woman, which reportedly happened at various locations within Fife from March 22, 2012, to June 22, 2016.
Despite his denials, a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh found him guilty of these charges, and the presiding judge, Lord Arthurson, made it clear that a custodial sentence was unavoidable.
During a subsequent court appearance at the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Arthurson condemned Watt’s actions as a “grave and repugnant course of sexual offending” against two vulnerable females.
The judge did not hold back in criticizing Watt’s attitude, particularly his attempts to shift blame onto his victims.
Watt had sought to portray himself as the victim, claiming on one occasion that “these two women have done this to me,” and on another that “the women have taken advantage of my good nature.” Lord Arthurson emphasized the importance of addressing such behavior, warning that if Watt did not confront his offending tendencies, he would remain a significant risk to others in the future.
As part of his sentence, Watt was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
The case has left many in Fife contemplating the serious implications of Watt’s actions and the justice served in this lengthy and troubling case.
