GARY STEEDMAN CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN TAYPORT AND DUNDEE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Dundee and Tayport, police uncovered a cache of highly disturbing child exploitation images on a laptop belonging to Gary Steedman. The investigation began in June 2017 when authorities responded to reports of indecent images being accessed from a property on William Street in Tayport, where Steedman was residing at the time.

Gary Steedman, aged 30 and residing at Thurso Gardens, was identified as the primary user of the laptop found at his parents' house in Tayport. The police raid was prompted by information suggesting that Steedman had been involved in viewing and possibly distributing illegal images of children. During the police interview, Steedman reportedly admitted, “when I was younger I had a problem with this,” indicating a troubled past linked to his actions.

Upon examining the contents of the laptop, authorities discovered a horrifying collection of images that fell into all three categories of indecency, including some at the most severe level of depravity. Among the most disturbing findings were two videos classified as Category A, which depicted the rape and torture of children, highlighting the severity of the crimes involved.

Further investigation into the laptop’s search logs revealed that Steedman had actively searched for indecent images of children, suggesting a deliberate intent to view such material. These findings led to charges against him for possessing and permitting the possession of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children, specifically at the William Street address in Tayport, over a period spanning from August 5, 2015, to June 26, 2017.

Steedman appeared before Dundee Sheriff Court, where he pleaded guilty to the indictment. The court deferred sentencing until August 16, with Sheriff Alastair Carmichael presiding. As part of the legal proceedings, Steedman was also placed on the sex offenders register, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk to the community.
