GARY LEES FROM DARLINGTON FACES JAIL OVER CHILD ABUSE IMAGE DOWNLOADS IN TEESSIDE
In a case that has drawn significant attention, Gary Lees, a resident of Darlington, is now facing potential imprisonment after authorities uncovered his involvement in downloading and possessing images of child abuse.The investigation revealed that Lees employed sophisticated methods to conceal his online activities, including the use of anonymous browsing tools and encryption software on his laptop, in an apparent attempt to evade detection by law enforcement agencies.
These actions directly violated a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that had been previously imposed on him.
The order was issued at Teesside Crown Court last December, where Lees, then aged 50, received a 15-month suspended jail sentence.
Despite this, the authorities found that he continued to engage in illegal activities, making matters worse.
In July, police officers executed a search warrant at Lees's residence in Darlington.
During the operation, they discovered that he had created five additional indecent images of children, breaching the conditions of his existing order.
This breach prompted his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
Today, Lees appeared before Teesside Crown Court via video link from Holme House Prison in Stockton, where he has been held since his arrest.
His legal representative, Christopher Baker, requested that Lees be granted bail, but this application was denied by Judge Peter Armstrong.
The judge indicated that Lees would face sentencing next month, emphasizing the seriousness of his violations.
