FRASER BARCLAY OF DUNDEE JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST TWO WOMEN

A 25-year-old man named Fraser Barclay from Dundee has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for a series of serious sexual offences, including rape and domestic abuse.

In a high court trial in Dundee, Barclay was convicted of attacking two women over a period of three years between 2018 and 2021. The jury found him guilty of five charges by a majority verdict, with two charges decided unanimously. The court heard that during the trial, it was established that Barclay raped a woman in 2018 while she was sleeping or intoxicated and unable to consent, in Dundee's West End area.

Moreover, evidence indicated that between 2019 and 2021, he subjected another woman to a prolonged campaign of control and violence. This included manipulating her and her finances, demanding household chores, controlling her social media accounts and emails, and physically assaulting her—once placing a pillow over her face and restricting her breathing. Investigations revealed that Barclay took control of her social media profiles, isolated her from friends and family, and physically attacked her by pinning her against a wall and grabbing her throat.

In one particularly violent incident, he raped her while she was asleep, which resulted in injuries and posed a danger to her life. He continued to have sex with her even after she explicitly withdrew consent on multiple occasions from 2018 to 2020, including recording her during an assault. Barclay was also convicted of two additional rape charges from 2020, all involving the same woman.

Following the verdict, judge Lord Renucci ordered a social work report and remanded Barclay into custody. His sentencing is scheduled for June at the High Court in Edinburgh.
