ERSTERN PETRIE'S SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENSES IN DUNDEE HILLTOWN AND CITY CENTRE
A man with a troubling history of sexual offenses, Ernest Petrie, has been remanded in custody following a disturbing incident in Dundee's Hilltown area. The incident occurred on August 27, when Petrie, aged 50, targeted a woman at her residence, engaging in a series of aggressive and inappropriate behaviors that have now led to serious legal consequences.
According to court proceedings, Petrie approached the woman at her front door and initiated a conversation that quickly escalated into a distressing encounter.
He seized her hand and refused to let go, struggling with her as she attempted to distance herself.
During this confrontation, Petrie smelled his fingers in a manner deemed highly inappropriate, and then stepped towards her in a sexual manner while making explicit remarks.
The situation worsened when he spat towards her, an act that added assault to the charges he faced.
This incident marks a troubling recurrence for Petrie, who previously attracted legal attention in Dundee.
Two years prior, he was involved in an incident in the city centre where he licked a woman and attempted to kiss her, actions that also drew criminal charges.
The court heard that Petrie’s behavior was not only invasive but also indicative of a pattern of sexual misconduct.
During the trial at Dundee Sheriff Court, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael presided over the case.
Petrie was found guilty of multiple charges, including communicating indecently with the woman and assault.
The sheriff dismissed Petrie’s account of events, stating, “I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt you did what she said you did.” He further emphasized that “a reasonable person would consider your actions to be sexual in their nature,” underscoring the severity of the misconduct.
Legal representatives for Petrie, including solicitor Anika Jethwa, argued that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
It was also revealed that Petrie had been remanded at HMP Perth prior to the trial.
In February, he was placed on the sex offenders register for 12 months and was subjected to social work supervision following the August 2022 offense.
Despite these circumstances, the court decided to deny bail.
Sheriff Carmichael stated, “This is your second sexual conviction in recent times so you will be kept in custody.” Petrie is scheduled to return to court in January, where a social work report will be considered before any further decisions are made regarding his case.
