DOUGLAS KAY'S HORRIFIC ABUSE IN DUNDEE: 45 MONTHS JAIL FOR SERIAL DOMESTIC TERROR
A man named Douglas Kay, known to have inflicted a prolonged and terrifying campaign of domestic abuse on his former partner in Dundee, has been sentenced to 45 months in prison.The conviction follows a detailed court hearing where a chilling recording of Kay’s threats and abusive language was played for the jury, revealing the extent of his violent behavior over nearly 15 years.
Kay, aged 43, was found guilty of ten separate charges that spanned from 2005 to 2019, all relating to incidents at various addresses within Dundee.
The court heard harrowing details of the physical and psychological torment he subjected his former partner to during this period.
His acts of violence included leaving her severely injured, physically assaulting her while she was pregnant, pushing her down stairs, and even forcing a plug into her eye in a display of extreme cruelty.
Throughout the trial, it was revealed that Kay’s abusive conduct was relentless.
He repeatedly threw food, drinks, and household items at her, and at one point, threatened her with knives, pressing one against her neck in a display of intimidation.
The court was shown evidence of how he would seize her, constrict her neck, bite her, spit at her, and stamp on her.
The brutality extended to punching her on her head and body, pulling her hair, forcing her to the ground, kicking her, and dragging her across floors.
One particularly disturbing detail was that Kay assaulted his pregnant partner by compressing her neck and punching her head.
As his violence escalated, he slapped her with such force that she fell backwards and struck her face.
In the final year of his abusive spree, he pinned her against a wall, headbutted her, and even held a knife to her neck before forcing a plug into her eye, an act described as chilling and calculated.
The court was also shown a recording in which Kay was unknowingly captured by his victim.
In this recording, he shouted aggressive and threatening language, including: “F*** off, see you you piece of s***, you’re the worst piece of s***e I ever met in my life.
I’m gonna show you something right f***ing now, see when it goes to court, I’m gonnae get off with this.
See after it… see you, you’re gonnae get dealt with – you’re f***ing f***ed.” Additional evidence detailed how Kay, who was generally residing in Cellardyke, Fife, forcibly entered a property in Dundee, demanded car keys from his partner, and threatened to make malicious reports to social services about her.
His disturbing behavior also included climbing onto a roof of a property, locking her inside a different flat, and waiting in vehicles outside her home, further demonstrating his obsessive and threatening conduct.
Following his conviction in February, Kay was remanded in custody and later returned to court for sentencing after a social work report was prepared.
His solicitor, John Boyle, acknowledged the psychological impact of the abuse, noting that Kay himself had been subjected to physical violence in his past.
Judge Paul Brown sentenced Douglas Kay to serve 45 months in prison.
Additionally, he imposed four non-harassment orders against Kay and three other individuals, each lasting 20 years.
The court also ordered a 12-month supervised release period, emphasizing the seriousness of the crimes and the need to protect the victim and others from further harm.
