DONNY KRISTOFER MCKENZIE FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED FOR REPEATED SEX OFFENSES AND HARASSMENT

In August 2023, Donny Kristofer McKenzie, a resident of Dundee, continued to cause distress to a woman named Ms. Valentine despite their nearly decade-long separation. McKenzie, who is currently incarcerated at HMP Perth, admitted to posting images intended to instill fear, alarm, or distress in Ms. Valentine. His actions were deemed reckless and malicious, further exacerbating her ongoing trauma.

McKenzie’s history of criminal behavior is extensive. He is already listed on the sex offenders register due to previous convictions and was prosecuted for failing to notify authorities about changes to his social media usernames. Last week, at Dundee Sheriff Court, he received a sentence of 19 weeks in prison for each of these offenses, reflecting the seriousness of his violations.

Back in 2017, McKenzie was subjected to a curfew and a non-harassment order following a two-year campaign of stalking against Ms. Valentine. Her then-partner recounted how McKenzie, described as a “monster,” threatened to use a petrol bomb on her house and to kidnap her children. During this period, he persistently sent her abusive messages and shared images depicting knives and road signs outside her residence, further intimidating her. Despite being legally barred from approaching her, Ms. Valentine remains in a state of constant fear, unable to feel safe in her own home.

In an interview with The Evening Telegraph, she expressed her frustration and despair: “(I) just feel so let down. A two-year non-harassment order didn’t deter him previously, so how’s it going to work this time? I’m sitting in the unknown, waiting for him to do something. Three house moves and I’m still not safe or any further forward. There’s no point in going to police as the punishment certainly doesn’t meet the crime. (I’m) just fed up – seven years of harassment and a slap on the wrist each time. I have lost everything and made myself so unwell, while he gets to live his life.”

McKenzie’s criminal record also includes a conviction from 2014, when he was jailed for engaging in sexual activities with minors aged 15. As a registered sex offender, he is legally required to keep police informed of any changes to his personal details, including online accounts. He admitted to failing to disclose his social media username changes to authorities on March 3 of the previous year. His sentences for these violations were backdated to December 22, when he was initially remanded.

In a separate case, McKenzie, then 21, of Balunie Terrace, appeared before Arbroath Sheriff Court after failing to attend a scheduled hearing. He had previously pleaded guilty to multiple sexual offenses committed in Angus, including repeated sexual encounters with a 15-year-old girl in December 2010 and January 2011, as well as another incident involving a different 15-year-old girl in November 2011. He also admitted to sending abusive and threatening messages, including threats to harm himself and others, and to setting fire to a girl’s house.

Following a breach of probation and bail conditions, McKenzie was sentenced to a total of 36 months in prison. Sheriff Gregor Murray expressed strong disapproval of his repeated violations, especially noting a Facebook post made on the day a warrant was issued for his arrest, which he found “hilarious.” The sheriff emphasized that McKenzie’s pattern of behavior warranted a lengthy custodial sentence, stating, “You pleaded guilty at trial to five offenses, including sex with girls aged 15 when you were 19 and 20. Despite several chances, you have flagrantly breached those orders. You will serve 18 months in custody and 18 months on supervised license. Any breach of the license will result in immediate return to custody for the remainder of your sentence.”

McKenzie’s sentences were backdated to February 7, reflecting the timing of his latest incarceration. His criminal history underscores a pattern of predatory and threatening behavior, with authorities and the courts taking stringent measures to prevent further harm and protect potential victims.
