DEAN RITCHIE'S BRUTAL ATTACK IN DUNDEE: KICKED AND PUNCHED WOMEN IN VIOLENT OUTBURST
A disturbing incident unfolded in Dundee where a woman, who had recently experienced a miscarriage, was subjected to a savage and relentless assault by her partner, Dean Ritchie. The attack was fueled by alcohol and drugs, leading to a violent outburst that left both women severely injured and traumatized.
According to court proceedings at Dundee Sheriff Court, Ritchie, aged 28, also caused another woman to lose consciousness during the same violent episode at a house party.
The court heard that Ritchie repeatedly punched and kicked both women in the head, inflicting serious bruising and injuries that required medical attention.
The assault was described as both brutal and sustained, with witnesses recounting how Ritchie suddenly 'flipped' after a night of substance abuse.
One of the victims, a family friend, attempted to shield Ritchie's ex-partner from further harm during the attack.
Despite her efforts, she was also caught in the violence, suffering injuries that included being punched and kicked on the head and body.
The court was shown evidence of her bloodstained clothing, which Ritchie claimed was from a nosebleed, dismissing any suggestion of violence on his part.
Details emerged that Ritchie had a history of abusive behavior towards his ex-partner, with whom he had been in a relationship for approximately eight years.
Just days before the assault, the woman had learned she had miscarried, a fact Ritchie denied knowing about at the time.
Prosecutor Jennifer Bairner outlined how Ritchie arrived sober at a gathering around 4 pm but soon began drinking heavily, becoming intoxicated as the night progressed.
In the early hours of the morning, the situation escalated dramatically.
Ritchie, under the influence, suddenly turned violent without warning.
The victim recounted that she did not understand what triggered his rage but was forcibly punched, kicked, and stamped on.
He then grabbed her head and struck it against a hard surface, causing her to lose consciousness intermittently during the assault.
The other woman, also a victim, was left concussed and desperately tried to alert neighbors about the attack.
She managed to stagger upstairs to inform her sleeping partner, who was wearing earplugs, about the violence she had endured.
Ritchie fled the scene before being apprehended by police, who later found blood on his clothing.
When questioned, Ritchie claimed ignorance of the incident, attributing the blood to a nosebleed.
A victim impact statement from Ritchie's ex-partner revealed that she continues to suffer from severe mental health issues as a consequence of the attack.
The court was also presented with photographs depicting the extent of the injuries sustained by the women, emphasizing the brutality of the assault.
Ritchie, who previously pleaded guilty to attacking both women on September 11, 2022, was sentenced to 36 months in prison.
He was also issued a restraining order banning him from contacting his ex-partner for ten years.
His solicitor, Jim Laverty, stated that Ritchie had since moved to England and was now in a new relationship.
Mr.
Laverty urged the court to impose a strict community payback order to facilitate his client's rehabilitation.
During the hearing, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael emphasized the danger posed by Ritchie's actions, describing the assault as highly dangerous due to the risk of severe injury to the head.
The sheriff highlighted that both women were left unconscious for periods of time, and the injuries depicted in the photographs confirmed the severity and brutality of the attack, which was both prolonged and vicious.
