November 2018 Child rapist jailed over historic cases in Glenrothes An 11-year-old sexual abuse victim was put in a unit for mentally disturbed children when she reported what was happening to her. She had to withdraw the allegations and apologise to her abuser before was allowed to leave. The paedo, who inflicted abuse on two girls in Fife more than 30 years, is finally behind bars. David Scott (65) was convicted him of five charges of abuse and rape last month at the High Court in Edinburgh. He has now been jailed for 10 years. Scott’s first victim was just 11 when she complained about his abusive behaviour and ended up in a unit for disturbed teenagers as a result. In order to be released from the unit she had to take back her complaints against Scott and say sorry to him. A judge condemned “the cruelty” by Scott “standing by and seeing a young girl committed to a mental institution”. Lord Boyd of Duncansby said both victims made accusations of sexual abuse against Scott at the time but that the way their complaints were handled did no credit to those involved. The judge said, “When at the age of 11 she complained…not only was she not believed but she was admitted to a unit for mentally disturbed teenagers.” He told Scott, “In order to get discharged she had to withdraw the allegations and apologise to you.” Scott has been placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. Scott began molesting his first victim at addresses and in a car in Glenrothes in 1982, when she was aged 10. He carried out sex acts on the girl and later began to rape her until she was aged 14 in 1986. He preyed on the second girl from when she was aged 14 at a house in the Fife town and molested her on an occasion between July 1982 and July 1983 and went on to have sex with her when she was asleep. Lord Boyd told him at the High Court in Edinburgh: “You were unanimously convicted of five charges of rape and sexual abuse against two girls in the 1980s.” “You gave evidence on your own behalf and you were unable to persuade any of the jurors of your innocence,” he said. The judge told Scott he would be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. Scott, latterly from Darlington, in County Durham, had denied the offending during his earlier trial. David Scott (65) preyed on the two children at locations in Glenrothes between January 1982 and July 1985. The High Court in Edinburgh heard how he repeatedly raped one of his victims. She was just 10-years-old when Scott started subjecting her to sexual assaults and the abuse continued until she turned 14. Scott’s second victim was aged just 14 when he assaulted her sometime between July 1982 and July 1983. On an occasion between July 1984 and July 1985, Scott sexually assaulted the girl whilst she slept and was unable to give consent to what was being done to her. Scott, of Darlington, County Durham, had denied abusing the girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons. When defence advocate Ronnie Renucci QC asked Scott whether he abused the girls, the sex offender said: “No.” But on Tuesday, on the fourth day of proceedings against him, jurors convicted him on charges of rape and sexual assault. The court heard that Scott was brought to justice after his victims plucked up enough courage to speak to police. Prosecution lawyer Alan Cameron told judge Lord Boyd that Scott was a first offender. Lord Boyd then remanded Scott in custody. He will be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh next month.
