DUNDEE MAN DAVID EGGLESTON ADMITS TO HAVING OVER 4,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Dundee, David Eggleston, aged 54, faced serious allegations at Dundee Sheriff Court regarding the possession of a large collection of indecent images of children.

The court was informed that between January 2012 and August 2016, Eggleston, who resides on Seafield Road, engaged in activities involving the creation, possession, or permission for the taking of explicit photographs or pseudo photographs of minors within his own home.

Prosecutors revealed that the investigation uncovered a staggering total of 4,212 indecent images stored across Eggleston’s electronic devices.

Among these, more than 300 images fell into the most explicit and severe category, highlighting the gravity of the material found.

The court was told that Eggleston’s actions and the content he possessed are considered highly illegal and deeply disturbing.

Following the discovery, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael ordered Eggleston to be placed on the sex offenders register, acknowledging the seriousness of the offense.

The court also deferred sentencing to allow for social work reports and an assessment by the Tay Project, which specializes in evaluating offenders involved in such crimes.

According to the prosecution, the police received intelligence on December 16, 2016, indicating that indecent images of children had been uploaded to the internet from Eggleston’s residence.

Acting on this information, officers from Police Scotland executed a search warrant at Eggleston’s home on December 29, 2016.

When Eggleston answered the door, he cooperated with the officers and invited them inside after they presented the warrant.

During the search, law enforcement officials recovered several electronic devices, including a Dell laptop, three external hard drives, a black Seagate external hard drive, a USB device, a black computer tower, and a Maxter hard drive.

These items were taken to police headquarters for detailed technical analysis.

The investigation revealed that some of the devices contained indecent images stored in unallocated clusters, which are areas of the storage that are typically inaccessible to users.

However, the presence of these images indicates they were once accessible before being deleted.

Further examination uncovered file-sharing software on the devices, which suggests Eggleston may have attempted to distribute or share the illicit material.

The forensic analysis confirmed that the total number of indecent images was 4,212, along with three videos depicting children in explicit acts.

The images were categorized into three levels of severity: 359 in Category A, 230 in Category B, and a majority of 3,623 in Category C, reflecting the increasing severity of the content.

Eggleston’s solicitor, Nicola Brown, stated that her client had immediately cooperated with police upon their arrival and that he was fully transparent during the investigation.

She emphasized that due to the serious nature of the charges, the court would need to review social work reports and assessments before proceeding with sentencing.

Judge Carmichael decided to postpone the sentencing hearing until March 13, granting Eggleston bail in the meantime, pending the outcome of the reports and assessments.

The case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the possession of illegal material within communities like Dundee.
