Febuary 2012 Llanelli man’s 13-year jail term for sex attacks on young girls A LLANELLI man who raped two young girls has been sent to prison for 13 years. Darren Evemy, formerly of Pugh Buildings, Cowell Street, was jailed at Swansea Crown Court. The 40-year-old was convicted last month after pleading not guilty during a 10-day trial. He denied indecently assaulting and raping his two victims, claiming the offences never happened. Evemy had spent almost a year in prison on remand before being sentenced by Judge Peter Heywood. His barrister, James Jenkins, conceding custody was inevitable, said Evemy would have to face the jail term “with such fortitude as he can bring to bear”. Judge Heywood said: “You indecently assaulted and raped these girls. “I can only properly deal with these matters by way of an immediate custodial sentence. “This was serious offending and only a significant, lengthy sentence is appropriate.” The judge directed that Evemy must be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He also disqualified him from ever working with children or vulnerable adults. He said the 345 days spent in custody on remand should count towards the sentence. Evemy could expect to be released after six and a half years, said the judge, but he would then be on licence for the remainder of the sentence.
