DUNDEE MAN SENTENCED FOR INSTAGRAM SEARCHES AND CHILD SEXUAL IMAGES
A man from Dundee, Darren Douglas, aged 39, has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register after admitting to possessing illegal images of children involved in sexual abuse.The police discovered his Samsung phone contained disturbing images of children as young as two, being sexually abused.
The police conducted a search of his flat when they received intelligence that a device containing such images would be found there, and had to call in a Dundee City Council joiner to gain entry after Douglas initially refused access.
During the search, they retrieved his phone, which had 15 inaccessible images classified into Category A, B, and C, featuring children of various ages from two to ten years old.
Many images depicted very young children, with Category A showing children aged three to six, and Category B including children between two and five.
The device was also found to have anti-forensic software installed to hide its contents.
Douglas used specific search terms like ‘pre-teens’ and ‘pre-teen fans’ on Instagram.
He admitted that between January 20, 2020, and June 19, 2020, he took or allowed the taking of indecent images of children.
The case was heard at Dundee Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Paul Brown deferred sentencing for reports and immediately added him to the Sex Offenders Register.
