DANIEL BANASIK SENTENCED IN HULL FOR CHILD SNATCH ATTEMPT AT HULL FAIR

In a disturbing incident that took place during Hull Fair, a man named Daniel Banasik, aged 28, was convicted of attempting to abduct a five-year-old boy and was subsequently sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

The incident occurred in Hull, a city known for its lively fairgrounds, where families gather to enjoy festivities and entertainment.

According to court reports, Banasik approached the young boy from behind while he was holding his mother’s hand.

Without warning, Banasik grabbed the child, lifting him off the ground by placing his hands under the boy’s armpits.

Witnesses observed Banasik signaling to a friend just seconds before making the attempt, indicating premeditation or coordination.

The young boy’s mother reacted swiftly and instinctively.

She grabbed her son’s trousers and pulled him back, screaming in distress, “What are you doing?” Her quick action prevented Banasik from carrying out his plan.

After lifting the boy, Banasik placed him back on the ground and quickly walked away from the scene.

The mother’s screams and her attempt to hold onto her son prompted a rapid response.

The boy’s stepfather, along with at least eight members of the public, gave chase, eventually apprehending Banasik.

Police officers arrived shortly thereafter and took him into custody at the junction of Anlaby Road, west Hull, moments after the attempted abduction on October 12.

During the arrest, authorities discovered children’s toys in Banasik’s bag, raising further concerns about his intentions.

Additional toys were found at his residence on Pendrill Street, also in west Hull.

The court heard that Banasik had come to the UK from Poland seven years prior and had been employed in a bakery until he was made redundant.

At Hull Crown Court, Judge Michael Mettyear, the honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, delivered the verdict.

The jury, which took only 50 minutes to convict Banasik of attempted child abduction, sentenced him to four and a half years in prison.

The judge remarked, “It is not possible to be sure what would have happened to the boy had the attempt to abduct him been successful, but I am certain that the intent was to do him serious harm, at the very least to permanently remove him from his family.” The young boy’s mother was visibly emotional as the verdict was read.

She expressed her relief and hope for justice, saying, “I’m just so pleased justice has been done.

He is in prison where he belongs—where he can’t hurt any children.

I hope he gets a long sentence.” She also shared her ongoing emotional trauma, stating, “I will never forget what he has put us through.

I just wanted to scream at him in court, but I stayed calm.” Furthermore, she revealed that the traumatic experience has left her unable to consider taking her son to a fair or theme park again, fearing for their safety.

The incident has left a lasting impact on the family, highlighting the dangers that can lurk even in seemingly safe community events like Hull Fair.
