EX-CITY COUNCIL WORKER COLIN SPINK FOUND WITH OVER 7000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN DUNDEE
In July 2014, an ex-Dundee City Council employee was convicted after police discovered over 6000 indecent images of children at his home.Colin Spink was found in possession of 5,773 still images and 976 videos depicting children, during a police raid on his residence, which he shared with his wife and their three-year-old daughter.
Spink, who previously worked as a resource assistant at two community centers for Dundee City Council, now faces a prison sentence after admitting to downloading the images via an online file sharing platform.
It is understood that he no longer holds his former position with the local authority.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Spink made efforts to hide his activities by installing file cleaning and shredding software to delete evidence.
However, police received a tip-off in January, which led to their visit to his home on April 3 of that year.
Fiscal depute Susan Ruta told the court that Spink later admitted to officers that he had a liking for viewing indecent images of naked girls aged 10 and over, but claimed he “didn’t get sexual gratification.” She quoted him saying, “I ventured too far — I admit to looking at certain things knowing it was wrong.” According to Miss Ruta, Spink stated that he loved his daughter and children generally, emphasizing he would never harm them.
He also claimed he had “not looked at hard stuff” and that “it disgusts me.” The authorities uncovered a total of 5,773 still photographs and 976 videos featuring children aged between six and 14.
Spink, aged 49 of Dundee, pleaded guilty to charges of taking or making indecent photographs of children.
Defense lawyer John Boyle indicated that he would reserve his plea in mitigation for sentencing at a later date.
Sheriff George Way deferred the sentencing until August to allow for social work reports and released Spink on bail in the meantime.
