COLIN LINDSAY SENTENCED IN DUNDEE FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE CASE
In a case that has shocked the community of Dundee, a man named Colin Lindsay has been sentenced to seven years in prison after admitting to a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against two young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a decade, involved a disturbing pattern of indecent behavior, sexual assault, and rape, highlighting the grave dangers posed by predators within the community.
Colin Lindsay, aged 57 at the time of sentencing, confessed to a total of five charges related to his abusive conduct.
The offences began when the victims were just six and ten years old, with Lindsay's predatory actions continuing from 2004 up until the year of his sentencing in 2013.
The court heard that Lindsay's abuse of one girl took place over a period from when she was six until she was 13, with incidents occurring both at private residences and within a motor vehicle in Dundee.
The second girl was subjected to abuse at various houses within the city from the age of ten until she was nearing her teenage years.
During the sentencing hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Turnbull emphasized the importance of protecting children from such predatory behavior.
He stated, “The courts must do what they can to protect children from predatory sexual conduct by adults,” underscoring the ongoing responsibility of the justice system to safeguard vulnerable members of society.
The judge also expressed a desire to ensure that public protection remains a priority for many years to come.
Following his conviction, Lindsay was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders register and to remain under supervision for an additional five years after his release from prison.
This measure aims to monitor his activities and prevent any further harm to the community.
Defense lawyer Edith Forrest described Lindsay as “extremely remorseful” for his actions.
She acknowledged that her client recognized the severity of his crimes and accepted that a substantial custodial sentence was justified.
Forrest also revealed that Lindsay had undergone psychological assessment, which diagnosed him with severe depression and a significant risk of suicide, factors that the court considered during sentencing.
The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and the wider Dundee community, highlighting the ongoing need for vigilance and protective measures against such heinous crimes.
