DUNDEE MAN JAILED FOR DECADE-LONG SERIES OF VIOLENT ATTACKS ON WOMEN
A violent criminal identified as Christopher Carswell, aged 31, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a series of assaults and violent attacks on women over more than a decade in the Dundee area.The court heard that Carswell's first assaults occurred between November 2002 and July 2003, during which he attacked Siobhan Matthew at two different addresses.
On one occasion, he was reported to have restricted her breathing by compressing her throat.
Additionally, he pinned her arms above her head and wrapped his legs around her at a flat in Carnegie Tower located in Dundee’s Alexander Street.
The court also found that he struck Ms.
Matthew in the face with his hand at an address in Jamaica Square in 2003.
Over the years, Carswell continued to commit assaults, including an attack in 2006 and another in 2013.
He was found guilty of multiple charges following a trial at the High Court in Aberdeen, which convicted him of assaulting three women over more than ten years.
The jury acquitted him of one assault charge and returned a not proven verdict on a rape allegation.
The court was also told that Carswell's childhood was troubled; he experienced physical abuse, took drugs, and was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
During sentencing, Judge Lord Beckett ordered Carswell to be supervised for four years after his release.
Carswell expressed remorse for his actions, feeling ashamed and disgusted with his behavior.
The court detailed his series of offences against the women, including seizing one woman by the throat in Balmullo Square and attempting to restrict her breathing, as well as assaulting Kelly Anne Hunter by pushing her against a wall, covering her face and spitting on her.
The judge emphasized his violent and disturbing history, sentencing him to a total of four years in prison with post-release supervision.
