DUNDEE SEX OFFENDER CHRIS CARSWELL'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN DUNDEE AND BRECHIN REVEALED
In a series of disturbing incidents spanning several years, Chris Carswell, a man from Dundee, has been linked to multiple serious criminal offenses involving sexual assault, child abuse, and violence.The gravity of his actions has shocked the local community and prompted legal proceedings that have kept him in custody as authorities continue their investigation.
In 2020, Carswell faced serious allegations that led to his remand in custody.
The charges stemmed from an incident where he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman and, in a separate, horrifying act, pressing a plug against a child's face.
These alleged offenses took place at two different properties in Brechin between July 18 and 19.
During a private hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court, the 35-year-old did not enter a plea to the charges.
According to prosecutors, Carswell is accused of assaulting the woman by wrapping his arm around her neck and choking her, an act that indicates a violent and aggressive nature.
Additionally, he is alleged to have sexually assaulted her by seizing her neck and kissing it, further demonstrating a pattern of disturbing behavior.
The case also involves allegations of him forcibly entering another residence, where he pressed the pins of a plug into a child's face.
Witnesses claim he licked the child and refused to leave the premises.
During this same incident, Carswell is accused of assaulting a second child by repeatedly striking their shoulders, causing the child to fall.
The case was adjourned by Sheriff Alastair Carmichael, who ordered Carswell to remain in custody pending further proceedings.
Carswell's criminal history in Dundee extends back over a decade.
In 2016, he was convicted of assaulting three women over an 11-year period and was sentenced to four years in prison.
His crimes during that period included a series of violent and sexual assaults, with the earliest incidents occurring between November 2002 and July 2003 in Dundee's Hilltown area.
During the trial at the High Court in Aberdeen, it was revealed that Carswell had assaulted a woman at two different addresses over an eight-month span.
One particularly violent incident involved him restricting her breathing by compressing her throat, then pinning her arms above her head and wrapping his legs around her body at a flat in Carnegie Tower on Alexander Street.
In 2003, he also struck another woman in the face at an address in Jamaica Square.
Further allegations include assaults on two more women in 2006 and 2013.
Despite the extensive history, Carswell was found not guilty of one specific assault charge and received a not proven verdict on a rape allegation.
Some charges, including sexual intercourse with a teenager and another assault, were withdrawn.
His solicitor, Chris Fyffe, explained that Carswell's troubled childhood, marked by physical abuse and drug use, contributed to his behavior.
Doctors diagnosed him with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Fyffe stated that his client has expressed remorse, feeling ashamed and disgusted by some of his actions.
Judge Lord Beckett sentenced Carswell to four years of supervised release following his imprisonment, emphasizing the need for ongoing oversight to prevent further offenses.
