DUNDEE MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT ON PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND
A man who assaulted his pregnant girlfriend after a drunken night out was sentenced to 22 months in jail by Sheriff Alastair Brown.Charlie Gardiner, aged 34, who is currently held at Perth prison, admitted to attacking Letitia Ann Swankie by seizing her by the hair, headbutting her against a wall, and grabbing her by the neck, all to her injury, on June 8 on Balunie Avenue.
He further confessed to behaving threatening and abusive, shouting, swearing, and issuing threats of violence towards Ms Swankie, behaving aggressively.
According to Depute fiscal Vicki Bell, Gardiner returned home intoxicated after a night out and accused Ms Swankie of infidelity, calling her derogatory names before assaulting her.
She was able to call her mother during the incident, who heard Gardiner threatening to kill her.
The police were called, and Ms Swankie was found outside the flat crying with a red mark on her head.
Sheriff Brown described Gardiner as a 'drunken boor' and stated that a custodial sentence was unavoidable due to the serious nature of the offence and his criminal record.
