CHARLES SHIELD FROM DUNDEE JAILED FOR CHILD MOLESTATION IN ENGLAND
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Charles Shield, a pensioner from Dundee, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of abusing a child over four decades ago.The conviction was handed down at the Inner London Crown Court, where Shield faced five counts of indecent assault against a young victim.
Shield, aged 75 and known locally as Brian, resided in the Ardler area of Dundee at the time of his arrest.
Despite his denial of the charges, the jury found him guilty of committing these heinous acts between the years 1969 and 1972.
The court sentenced him to six years in prison for his crimes and ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, reflecting the severity of his offenses.
The jury's verdict revealed that on five separate occasions, Shield either indecently assaulted the same child or coerced the young victim into performing sexual acts.
These charges were brought under the Sexual Offences Act 1956.
It was established that all these incidents occurred at an educational institution in England, which has since closed down.
Shield was employed at this establishment during the time of the offenses.
In Dundee, Shield was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as the Mormon church.
He was involved with the church for approximately 15 years and held the position of executive secretary to the bishopric.
This role involved significant responsibilities, including organizing interviews and managing church activities.
However, concerns have been raised by church members and community observers.
One anonymous churchgoer accused the church of attempting to conceal Shield’s criminal behavior, stating, “They are trying to sweep everything under the carpet.” She expressed frustration that Shield’s misconduct had not been addressed openly, despite his known association with the church.
“He was secretary to the bishop — basically setting up interviews.
He had a key to the building.
It would have given him contact with kids,” she added.
Another church member voiced her anger, saying, “I was furious because I had children that grew up in this church all these years and nobody thought to warn me.” The revelations have raised serious questions about the church’s handling of Shield’s past and the safety of children within the community.
