August 2015 Paedophile jailed for 12 years for repeated abuse of young girl  A young girl was repeatedly abused and raped from the aged of six Charles Salter, 55, groomed the girl and began sexually abusing her when she was six, Hull Crown Court heard. He raped her on numerous occasions over a six year period before she reported the abuse to a friend and police were called. Salter, of north Hull, admitted: Two counts of raping a girl under 13 Two of sexual activity with a child One of sexual activity with a child under 13 He was jailed for 12 years for crimes a judge described as “grotesque”. The court heard Salter threatened his victim to get her to go along with what he wanted, and she feared she would “get into trouble” if she told anyone. The abuse had a devastating impact on her, and she said in a victim personal statement: “I felt like I had nothing to live for because of what he was doing.” Judge Jeremy Richardson QC said: “Fortunately, she is now receiving counselling to help her. “It is to be hoped her life is not ruined.” Patrick Palmer, prosecuting, said that, during one attack, the girl “describes accessing Facebook in an attempt to divert her mind and block out what was taking place”. Sentencing Salter, Judge Richardson told him: “You corrupted and debauched that young girl. “I forbear to set out the details – they are grotesque.” Salter had no previous convictions. A further charge of sexual assault against the same victim was left to lie on the file.
