DUNDEE WOMAN JAILED FOR HEAD-STABBING PARTNER DURING DRUNKEN DOMESTIC ASSAULT
Carol Devaney, aged 64, left her partner severely injured after an incident in their home in Cellardyke.The incident occurred after her partner expressed a lack of love towards her.
Devaney, in a state of intoxication, attacked her partner with a steak knife, stabbing him in the head and causing a head wound requiring stitches.
The attack was sudden, with Devaney wrestling the knife from her partner before trying to prevent him from alerting authorities.
Despite multiple attempts to call for help, she knocked the phone from his hand.
Devaney appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court and admitted to the charge of severely injuring her partner in a domestic assault.
The court was informed that the attack was described as "very serious," but the charges related to putting her partner’s life in danger were dropped.
The victim sustained a 2 cm incision on the back of his head and was treated with stitches.
Devaney, of Balgarthno Street in Dundee, pled guilty to a domestically aggravated assault causing severe injury, with her lawyer noting her physical and mental health difficulties.
She had no prior criminal record.
The court deferred sentencing until March 11 for report submissions and possible considerations of a non-harassment order.
The incident took place in November 2021 after an evening of drinking, and Devaney appeared at court using a walking frame.
