BARBARA PATRICK AND JOHN PATRICK FROM FIFE ESCAPE JAIL AFTER CHILD ABUSE CASES IN KIRKCALDY
In a recent court ruling at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, a woman from Blackcraigs, Fife, identified as Barbara Patrick, aged 76, was spared imprisonment after being convicted of serious historic child abuse offences. The court sentenced her to perform 160 hours of unpaid community service, a decision that drew attention given the gravity of her convictions.
The charges against Barbara Patrick stem from a series of disturbing incidents that took place between December 25, 1982, and August 7, 1985.
During this period, she was found guilty of physically assaulting a young girl on multiple occasions.
The court heard detailed accounts of her actions, which included repeatedly hitting the girl on her head and body with her hand, punching her, and kicking her.
There were also instances where she seized the girl by her hair, pulling it forcefully, and on one occasion, she was reported to have pulled the girl’s head from side to side, causing injury.
In addition to the physical abuse, Barbara Patrick was convicted of neglecting two girls during the same period.
Her failure to provide adequate food and nourishment was deemed to constitute ill-treatment that could have caused unnecessary suffering or injury.
The court emphasized the severity of her neglect alongside the physical assaults, painting a disturbing picture of the conditions these young victims endured.
Meanwhile, John Patrick, aged 73, who is her co-accused, was absent from the court proceedings as he now resides in Azerbaijan.
Despite his absence, he was also held accountable for his role in the abuse.
His crimes took place between July 11 and July 31, 1985, at an address in Fife.
The court found that he assaulted a girl aged between nine and twelve, striking her on the body with his hand, kicking her, and physically throwing her across a room.
The force used caused her to hit an unknown object and resulted in her being thrown against a chair, which subsequently broke.
John Patrick was fined £800 for his actions.
The court’s decision reflects the seriousness with which the justice system views child abuse, even when the offences occurred decades ago.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts to bring justice for victims of historic abuse, and the court’s ruling underscores the importance of accountability regardless of the passage of time.
