ANDREW WILSON REIMPRISONED IN DUNDEE FOR HISTORIC SEXUAL ABUSE CASES
A man from Dundee, Andrew Wilson, has been returned to prison after admitting to a series of sexual offenses committed against a teenage girl during the early 1980s.Wilson, aged 78, had previously served a three-year sentence in 2021 for abusing three boys, a conviction that brought him into the public eye and prompted further scrutiny of his past actions.
It was through media coverage of his earlier conviction that the latest victim, inspired by the reports, decided to come forward and report her own traumatic experiences from over four decades ago.
The victim’s account revealed a disturbing pattern of grooming and abuse carried out by Wilson, who was at the time a Latin teacher at a secondary school in Angus and also led the school's hillwalking club.
During a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, Wilson pleaded guilty to multiple counts of indecent assault on the girl, with the incidents spanning from 1981 to 1984.
Prosecutor Adrian Stalker outlined how Wilson systematically groomed the girl over several years, exploiting her vulnerable home circumstances and leveraging his authoritative position as her teacher.
The court heard that Wilson’s manipulative behavior often left the girl distressed and emotionally compromised.
The court detailed that the abuse began after Wilson returned from a trip with the hillwalking club, inviting the girl to his home under the pretense of offering her dinner and wine.
It was during these visits, often while she was intoxicated, that Wilson committed acts of molestation.
The abuse persisted until she was approximately 18 years old, with Wilson giving her a key to his house but imposing strict conditions on her visits—such as only coming in darkness and avoiding wearing perfume to prevent detection.
The victim was reported to have been in tears during many of these assaults, which also took place during trips with the hillwalking club.
She only disclosed the abuse many years later, after a 2021 newspaper report about Wilson’s previous abuse of three boys prompted her to come forward and share her own ordeal.
Wilson, who was struck off as a teacher in 2011 following an investigation into his conduct, was finally convicted in a criminal court a decade later.
He is currently in custody, awaiting sentencing scheduled for the upcoming month.
Lady Drummond, the presiding judge, adjourned the case to allow for further reports before sentencing.
Wilson’s actions, which involved grooming and repeated assaults over several years, have now led to his renewed imprisonment.
His prior conviction and time served for abuse, combined with these new charges, highlight a long history of criminal behavior.
