ANDREW WAGHORN FROM DUNDEE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND STEALTHING ATTACK IN SCOTLAND
A man from Dundee, Andrew Waghorn, has been sentenced to over six years in prison after being found guilty of serious sexual offenses, including a disturbing case of stealthing. The incident took place in early 2020 at a hotel in Dundee, where Waghorn engaged in consensual sexual activity with a woman.
However, the situation took a sinister turn when he secretly removed his condom without her knowledge or consent, an act known as stealthing, which is increasingly recognized as a form of sexual assault.
During the trial at the High Court in Dundee, it was revealed that Waghorn then forcibly took the woman’s hand and moved it away from her private parts, before proceeding to engage in non-consensual sex.
This act of stealthing, which involves removing or not using a condom without the partner’s awareness, is considered a serious violation of personal autonomy and consent.
Waghorn is believed to be only the second individual in Scotland to face prosecution specifically for stealthing, highlighting the growing legal recognition of this form of assault.
In addition to the stealthing incident, Waghorn was convicted of raping two women, both of whom cannot be publicly identified due to legal restrictions.
The court heard that he was also convicted of raping a woman in October 2014 at a country hotel in Fife.
The trial last year established his guilt in these cases, and the court initially deferred sentencing to gather further background reports on Waghorn’s character and history.
On Tuesday, at the High Court in Edinburgh, Waghorn appeared before Lord Summers, who sentenced him to 73 months in prison and ordered that he be registered on the sex offenders register for life.
The judge commented on Waghorn’s character, noting that the care and courtesy he apparently demonstrated were not extended to his victims.
The court also considered statements about his conduct and past behavior.
Waghorn’s criminal record includes a previous conviction for domestic abuse, which involved a 20-month course of harmful behavior.
For this offense, he was placed on a community payback order in 2022.
The recent convictions and sentencing underscore the severity of his actions and the ongoing legal efforts to address sexual violence and assault in Scotland.
