ANDREW GLENN FROM DUNDEE CAUGHT WITH THOUSANDS OF CHILD PORN IMAGES AND VIDEOS
In March 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Andrew Glenn, a resident of Mains Road in Dundee, who was found to possess an alarming collection of indecent images and videos depicting children.The authorities uncovered nearly 5,000 illicit images and over 200 videos on Glenn’s personal computer during a police raid, which was conducted under a warrant.
The investigation revealed that Glenn had been involved in the creation, possession, and distribution of these illegal materials over a span of several years.
When police officers arrived at Glenn’s residence in the Hilltown area on June 29, 2017, they seized his computer equipment for forensic analysis.
During questioning, Glenn admitted to having an ongoing interest in child pornography, stating to officers, “I have an interest in child pornography.
I have for a long time now.
But I don’t touch any young boys, I never have.
I was touched when I was 11.” This confession was part of a broader discussion where Glenn acknowledged his involvement in taking or permitting the taking of indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of children between February 28, 2009, and June 28, 2017.
Glenn’s legal troubles deepened when he revealed that he had attempted to destroy his computer in an effort to combat his addiction.
He explained to police that he had broken the hard drive of his laptop, claiming, “There are laptops in there.
They have no hard drives though.
I broke the hard drive to try and stop what I was doing and getting on the internet — it’s an addiction.” Despite these efforts, forensic analysis confirmed the presence of a significant number of illegal images and videos, categorized into different levels of severity.
The findings included 401 Category A images and 139 Category A videos, along with 2,017 Category B images, 61 videos, 1,865 Category C images, and eight videos.
Legal proceedings at Dundee Sheriff Court saw Glenn represented by solicitor Nicola Brown, who highlighted his serious mental health issues.
A psychiatric assessment indicated that Glenn was suffering from a previously undiagnosed mental health disorder, and his general practitioner had identified additional mental health and physical difficulties.
Brown explained that her client was in a state of distress due to the ongoing case.
The court was informed that, considering his mental health, a community-based disposal was deemed appropriate, although unpaid work was not suitable for him at this time.
During the hearing, Sheriff Alastair Carmichael ordered Glenn to be placed on the sex offenders register for three years.
He also mandated that Glenn attend the Tay Project programme for sex offenders and placed him under a three-year community payback order with specific conditions.
These conditions included restrictions on owning more than one mobile phone or computer and a prohibition on using social networking sites without prior approval from his supervising officer.
The sheriff emphasized the importance of monitoring Glenn’s compliance with these conditions and warned of the serious nature of his offenses.
Bail was granted, and the court deferred sentencing until March 13 to allow for further reports and assessments.
Meanwhile, Glenn was placed on the sex offenders register, ensuring ongoing supervision and monitoring of his activities.
