SUPPORT WORKER ALEXANDER MUNRO BANNED FOR EXPLOITING VULNERABLE CLIENT
Alexander Munro, who worked as a support worker for a housing organization in Dundee, was found to have engaged in inappropriate and illegal conduct involving a vulnerable client.Between March 2020 and January 2023, Munro sent explicit images to the service user, including a photograph of his erect penis, along with flirtatious remarks such as “Look who’s popped up to say hello”.
He also invited the individual to his home at least twice with the intention of engaging in sexual activity, suggesting that they could “let your hair down”.
Furthermore, Munro sent multiple messages calling the client “babes” and “hun”, kissed the service user, and allowed him to perform sexual acts on him.
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) conducted an investigation and concluded that Munro’s actions constituted a breach of trust.
They emphasized that the unequal power relationship between the social worker and the vulnerable individual raised serious concerns around consent and exploitation.
The SSSC ruled that Munro’s conduct was a serious violation of professional standards, resulting in his being struck off and banned from practicing as a social worker.
Although Munro denied the accusations, claiming that the service user had fabricated the story, the SSSC rejected his defense.
They pointed to the extensive exchange of messages over a lengthy period as evidence of ongoing misconduct.
The regulatory body noted that Munro’s behavior could have caused emotional and psychological damage to the client, and that his professional practice was compromised, leading to his removal from the register to ensure public safety.
