ALAN LOW FROM DUNDEE CAUGHT WITH HUNDREDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES BUT ESCAPES PRISON
In April 2019, a disturbing case involving Alan Low, a 64-year-old resident of Dundee, came to light when he was found in possession of a large collection of indecent images of children.The incident unfolded when police executed a search warrant at his home on Abercromby Street, Barnhill, in Dundee, during the early hours of a July morning.
Upon entering Low’s residence, the police encountered him and he immediately made a revealing statement, saying, “It’s all in there,” while pointing to a mobile phone in the living room.
His words indicated an awareness of the incriminating evidence stored on his device.
According to the court proceedings, the police had previously received confidential information suggesting that images of children had been created from the same Dundee street.
Acting on this intelligence, officers arrived at Low’s home at approximately 7:35 am to carry out a search.
During the search, the police examined Low’s mobile phone, which contained a disturbing array of images.
A detailed analysis revealed the presence of a category C video, which included hidden camera footage showing naked boys in a changing room.
In addition, several hundred still images depicting children in naturist settings were recovered from the device.
Further investigation indicated that Low had been accessing a hosting website that specialized in indecent images of children.
An internal examination of his devices showed that the video in question was downloaded on May 2, and the images were stored in folders associated with his online activity.
The court heard that between February 18 and June 28 of the previous year, Low either took or permitted the taking of indecent images of children.
He subsequently pleaded guilty to these charges.
Representing Low, solicitor Scott Norrie, stated that his client had always intended to admit guilt in this matter.
In sentencing, Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown ordered Low to complete 200 hours of unpaid community service.
She also imposed a series of conditions aimed at preventing future offenses, including a three-year period of supervision and registration on the sex offenders register.
Additionally, Low was subjected to a conduct requirement that prohibited him from having unsupervised contact with children.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Dundee to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and underscores the importance of vigilance and swift action in addressing such serious crimes.
