ADAM NOWICKI FROM DUNDEE FACES LONG JAIL TERM OVER CHILD ABUSE FILES DISTRIBUTED GLOBALLY
In August 2013, Dundee man Adam Nowicki was sentenced to a substantial prison term after admitting to serious charges related to the possession and distribution of child abuse images.The court proceedings revealed that Nowicki had amassed an alarming collection of nearly 12,000 photographs and over 700 videos over a span of more than four years, highlighting the extent of his involvement in this disturbing activity.
During the hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court, it was disclosed that Nowicki not only stored these illicit materials on his personal computer but also created a file that was accessible to other paedophiles worldwide.
This setup facilitated the sharing and viewing of the horrific content among a network of offenders.
Nowicki had responded to 162 requests from other web users seeking access to his collection, which included images of children under the age of six, some of the most vulnerable victims.
The court was informed that the images and videos found on Nowicki’s device were classified at various levels of severity.
Specifically, 1,683 photographs and 397 videos were rated at level four on the scale used to measure such material, depicting sexual abuse of children by adults.
Even more disturbing, 211 images and 52 videos were classified at the highest level, level five, which included explicit content involving sadistic acts directed at children.
These figures underscore the heinous nature of the material involved.
Nowicki, aged 26 and residing on Dens Road in Dundee, pleaded guilty to charges of downloading and distributing indecent images of children between February 1, 2008, and June 30, 2012.
During interviews with social workers, he made chilling comments, claiming, “Some children are sexual — they pose for these things because they want to.” His defense lawyer, Paul Parker-Smith, argued that Nowicki’s actions were passive, stating, “He placed these images in a folder on his computer which can and has been accessed by other persons.
It was a passive sense of distribution.” The lawyer also emphasized that Nowicki was a married man working as a joiner and suggested that his community should focus on rehabilitating him rather than imposing a prison sentence.
However, the presiding sheriff, George Way, was unequivocal in condemning Nowicki’s actions.
He described the crimes as “disgusting” and expressed his outrage at the fact that Nowicki had shared such material with 162 other individuals over a period of more than four years.
Sheriff Way stated, “I’m particularly appalled by your lack of any empathy for these children.
You explained to the social workers that ‘some children are sexual’ and ‘want to pose’ for these disgusting and abusive images.” In light of the severity of the offenses, Sheriff Way sentenced Nowicki to an extended custodial term of two years, which includes a period of supervision in the community following his release.
Additionally, Nowicki was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
The court’s decision reflects a firm stance against such vile practices and aims to serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar crimes.
