June 2012 Paedophile jailed for targeting girls aged 12 and 13 The grandson of a man who was jailed for abusing four young girls has been jailed for 26 months for carrying out sex attacks on two schoolgirls. Todd Hume attacked one girl between October and November 2006 and another between January 2006 and December 2007. The 23-year-old admitted two charges of using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards the girls. It later emerged his grandfather John Hume of Ashby Crescent, Knightswood is serving a five year sentence for abusing four young girls. Both of Hume’s victims, who were aged 12 and 13 at the time of the attacks, gave evidence against him. He entered guilty pleas to the charges on the second day of his trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court. The younger of the two girls, who was attacked once, told the court she was “still playing with Barbies” at that age and described herself as being “innocent” then. Bail breach The court heard that Hume had no recollection of his actions. The 23-year-old also admitted scaring young boys at a primary school, last October, which breached bail conditions at the time. Passing sentence, Sheriff Sam Cathcart told Hume – who has previous convictions for breach of the peace, assault and theft and a police assault – that there was no other way of dealing with him than by way of a custodial sentence. He was jailed for a total of 26 months – 23 of which are for the sex attacks on his young victims. Hume will serve three months afterwards for the incident at the school. Sheriff Cathcart also ordered Hume be monitored for 11 months after his release and placed on the sex offenders register. Following his conviction, it can be revealed that Hume’s trial came less than a year after his grandfather, John Hume, was sentenced to five years at the High Court in Glasgow for abusing four girls.
