GREIG BRYDON SHOCKS GLASGOW WITH ILLEGAL IMAGES OF RUNAWAY TEENAGER
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Glasgow community, Greig Brydon, a 37-year-old man from the city, was found guilty of possessing indecent images of a vulnerable teenage boy who had run away from home.The incident took place in November of the previous year, and the repercussions have been severe.
According to court records, Brydon lured the 15-year-old boy to his flat located in the Maryhill area of Glasgow after meeting him in a local pub.
The teenager, who was reported missing on 7 November 2009, was reportedly approached by Brydon and his brother while they were drinking at the Thistle Bar on Maryhill Road.
The two men struck up a conversation with the boy, who was described as having learning difficulties, and eventually invited him back to Brydon’s residence for more drinks.
During the visit, Brydon’s brother left the flat, and it was at this point that Brydon allegedly used his mobile phone to record the boy performing a sexual act.
The teenager later left the flat and approached a concierge, claiming he was a missing person.
The police were promptly called, and the boy cooperated fully with authorities, revealing details of his visit to Brydon’s flat.
Subsequent investigations led officers to search Brydon’s home, where they discovered his mobile phone containing seven photographs and two videos of the boy.
Further examination revealed that Brydon had also downloaded these images onto his personal computer, raising serious concerns about his conduct.
At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Sheriff Robert Anthony addressed Brydon directly, describing his actions as “inexplicable” and emphasizing that such behaviour would not be tolerated within the community.
Despite the gravity of the case, Sheriff Anthony decided against a custodial sentence, citing the absence of any physical contact between Brydon and the minor.
Instead, Brydon was placed on the sex offenders register and sentenced to 240 hours of community service, reflecting a measure of leniency but also a stern warning.
The court’s decision underscores the importance of safeguarding vulnerable minors and sending a clear message that exploitation and the creation of indecent images will be met with serious consequences.
The case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and protective measures within Glasgow and beyond.
