ABERDEEN MAN CONNOR BLAIR JAILED AFTER ASSAULTING PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND
A man responsible for assaulting his pregnant ex-girlfriend after she asked him to stop smoking inside the house has been returned to prison with an extended sentence.Connor Blair physically attacked his previous partner by grabbing her around the neck and pulling her backward, which caused her to hit her head against a kitchen cabinet.
During the court hearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, it was revealed that Blair, aged 28, arrived intoxicated at the woman's residence while she was 15 weeks pregnant with his child.
When she asked him to extinguish his cigarette, Blair suddenly became angry, attacking her unexpectedly and causing injuries.
It was also disclosed that Blair was on licence for previous violent crimes when this incident occurred.
Prosecutor Claire Stewart explained to the court that the couple had a tumultuous on-and-off relationship over several years.
On the evening of March 6, at around 7:30 pm, Blair showed up at the woman’s doorstep on Macduff Street while intoxicated.
After entering the home, he began shouting and swearing at her.
Blair then pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one inside the house despite her requests for him not to smoke there.
His reaction turned aggressive; he confronted her directly, prompting her to push him away out of fear.
As she was about to leave the kitchen, Blair wrapped both arms around her neck and pulled her back, causing her to stumble and hit her head on a kitchen cabinet.
She subsequently called the police, who arrived and took Blair into custody.
In the courtroom, Blair admitted to one count of assault and another of making threats or behaving abusively towards his former partner.
Sheriff Craig Findlater noted that Blair's previous criminal record of similar offenses was a factor in his sentencing decision.
Given that Blair committed this violent act while on licence for prior violent offenses, the sheriff stated that a custodial sentence was necessary.
Blair, whose current address was listed as HMP Grampian, was sentenced to an additional 10 months in prison, with a further six months added to his term.
Moreover, a non-harassment order was imposed, prohibiting him from approaching his former partner for the next ten years.
