ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR LEAVING DOG IN SEVERE NEGLECT
Taylor received a 28-day jail sentence after an investigation by the Scottish SPCA revealed that he had left his seven-month-old pet in significant pain due to a severe skin condition and a flea infestation. The dog, a Shar Pei cross named Tank, was found in Taylor’s minimally furnished flat with extensive skin inflammation and deep scratches on his neck.
Following the SPCAs' concerns for the animal’s welfare, inspectors scheduled multiple veterinary appointments for Tank.
However, Taylor consistently failed to attend these appointments, ignored subsequent follow-ups, and behaved aggressively when confronted by the inspectors.
As a result, Tank was lawfully removed from the property under a warrant and transferred to the Scottish SPCA for urgent veterinary care.
In court, Taylor, who has a history of violent offenses, pleaded guilty to one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to the dog by neglecting to seek veterinary treatment.
Defense lawyer Christopher Maitland explained to the court that Taylor's struggles with drug addiction were the cause of his failure to get proper care for the animal.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin imposed a fine of £1,000 on Taylor but did not give him any time to pay, resulting in a nearly month-long imprisonment.
After receiving prescribed treatment, Tank was taken to the Scottish SPCA’s Highlands and Islands facility to continue his recovery and care.
He was successfully rehomed in October 2025 and is now adapting well to his new family.
The inspector commented: “This was a severe case of neglect where the owner failed to seek urgent veterinary assistance, causing the dog unnecessary pain and suffering.
“I am glad we have secured justice for Tank and that he is no longer in distress.”
