ABERDEEN NURSE SILVIU MACIUCA PERMANENTLY STRUCK OFF AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT CONVICTION
Silviu Maciuca, a nurse based in Aberdeen, has been permanently removed from the nursing register following a serious conviction related to sexual assault. The incident in question occurred on September 27, 2017, at an address within Aberdeen, where Maciuca admitted to sexually assaulting a woman.
His guilty plea was entered at Aberdeen Sheriff Court last year, marking a significant legal development in this case.
Following his conviction, Maciuca was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of three years, a standard procedure for such offences.
However, the repercussions for his professional standing extended beyond this, as the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) conducted a thorough review of his fitness to practice as a registered nurse.
The NMC concluded that his ability to safely continue practicing was severely impaired due to his actions and the manner in which he responded to the situation.
The NMC disciplinary panel ultimately decided to strike him off the register permanently.
This decision was driven by their assessment that Maciuca had failed to demonstrate any remorse or insight into his conduct.
The panel expressed concern about the high risk of him repeating such behaviour, which justified the severe penalty.
In their judgement, they emphasized that the case was carefully considered, and the decision to remove his registration was made to uphold the standards expected of registered nurses.
The panel noted that Maciuca had not engaged with the NMC following his conviction, showing no evidence of remorse, remediation, or efforts to address his conduct.
They also highlighted that he was not currently employed in the nursing profession.
The panel underscored that his actions represented a significant departure from the professional standards and ethical responsibilities expected from a registered nurse, and therefore, the decision to strike him off was necessary to protect the public and maintain trust in the nursing profession.
